The fairy Galmeline reveals the secrets of the Galmwald and its 300-year-old oaks. Follow Galmelin on a tour through the Galmwald. Galmelin's adventure trail is located in Obereichelried and starts at the forester's lodge of the Revierkörperschaft Galm.
Surprises and insights into the world of nature and the forest await you on the path through the state forest Galm. You are not only an audience, you are right in the middle of the action and can participate, feel and experience!
This path starts at the forest hut (Forsthütte), which is located 200 m north of Galmguets hamlet. On the way, 9 stops are offered. This hike is ideal for families or those who wish to enjoy the calm and invigorating air of a vast forest. Its history dates back to the Mediation Act of 1803 initiated by Napoleon Bonaparte, which made it the property of the State of Fribourg. Unique in Switzerland, Galmwald is a fully-fledged commune in the Lake District. The engineer of the forest district is the sworn syndic. Its only constituents are wildlife and trees.
The history of the Galmwald
Napoléon Bonaparte assigned the Galmwald to the Canton of Fribourg in 1803 with the Mediation Act. It became a state forest and finally a Swiss unicum. Until today, the area has not been allocated to any community.
Info: Sessile oak is the local species in Galmwald. It is between 25 and 40 meters high and reaches a maximum age of 800 to 1000 years.
